Position Summary

The Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Director of Finance and is responsible for providing financial administrative support to Meals on Wheels America. This position ensures that our internal operations are aligned with Meals on Wheels America’s vision, mission, values, brand, key initiatives, advocacy positions, and value propositions. This position supports financial operations with accounts payable/receivable, expense reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. This is a great opportunity to join the Meals on Wheels America national office team (forty-nine people strong and growing) in support of over 1100 member programs across the nation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manages the full cycle of accounts payable and receivable; accurately records receipts and disbursements, verifies and validates documentation prior to disbursing for payment, and maintains system to ensure timely receipt of accounts payable.
  • Manages the full-cycle of payroll in cooperation with the direction of the Director of Human Resources and Culture; accurately recording time records, tax withholding records, and ensuring accurate payrolls are prepared bi-weekly and preparing organizational 403b deposit reconciliations. 
  • Responsible for a defined set of month-end and year-end reconciliations and is an active participant in monthly internal and annual audited financial statement and tax form preparation.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliation of organizational bank and investment account statements for review and approval.
  • Provides consultation to staff about submission of expense reports, travel, and procurement requests to ensure they are in accordance with policy.
  • Collaboratively shares information and supports each department, providing financial and data analysis to aid strategic decision making.
  • Manages contracts files and administration to ensure all terms are met.
  • Provides ad hoc financial reports as requested.
  • Miscellaneous other duties, as directed by the Senior Director of Finance

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management
  • 1-3 years of related work experience (non-profit experience a plus)
  • Organization uses the following software, experience with any of these a plus:
    • Sage/Intact Accounting
    • Accounts Payable
    • Tallie Expense Reporting
    • Paycom Payroll
    • NetForum Association Management System
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Excellent oral/written communications and computer skills.
